Study Abroad Day – Who Can Celebrate?
Did you know that Study Abroad Day celebrates all global learning? It’s not solely about international travel opportunities, but about any programs, courses, or special events that result in experiential learning and preparation for real-world application. As our society and world continue to shift and change, it is good to remind ourselves that “study abroad” does not have to be mutually exclusive.

“Abroad” can mean:
- A – Abroad, Away & At Home
- Study abroad isn’t just international—it includes domestic programming, local community engagement, and virtual exchange.
- B – Beyond Borders
- Think further than physical geography—explore new cultures, perspectives, and communities, wherever you are.
- R – Real-World Readiness
- Build critical skills through internships, research, language immersion, and cross-cultural engagement.
- O – On Your Terms
- Choose the experience that fits your goals, your timeline, and your circumstances—there’s no one-size-fits-all journey.
- A – Accessibility for All
- Scholarships, advising, and identity-based support help make global learning experiences possible for everyone.
- D – Diverse Destinations & Experiences
- From Ghana, to Japan, to the Navajo Nation, to New York City, to right at home. Every destination has a story to tell.
No experience is insignificant and should be recognized and valued for its merits. This can occur on International Study Abroad Day, or any day of the year! We remain at your disposal to support your initiatives in whatever way is meaningful to you.
